How we accomplish our goal.
We are the Northern KY/Cincinnati chapter of Team River Runner, a national volunteer organization with chapters across the country. Our goal is the help wounded veterans recover through adaptive sports and specifically adaptive kayaking. TRR accomplishes this type of veteran rehabilitation through a step-by-step approach in which our wounded warriors begin learning to control a whitewater kayak in a pool, and then move to quiet open water and where available, open ocean and river, where they gain additional experience and skills. Once they have mastered the basics of adaptive kayaking, they are then able to go on TRR organized trips to more progressively challenging venues.
Step by Step
Indoor Pool Sessions
The purpose of these sessions are to provide a relatively safe environmental for the Veterans to build paddling, balance and rolling skills. Small group instruction is provided to assess and aid them in accomplishing their personal kayaking goals.
On to the Rivers and Lakes
As the Veterans build skills and confidence it is on to the great outdoors. During these outtings we help them to practice what has been accomplished in the pool sessions.
